Leafy Seadragon

2022

A mythical journey into the world of fashion and art. Nature-inspired conceptualization, exploring the synergy of Fashion and Art, and Material fabrication. This project experimented diligently in the making and manipulating of flexible and rigid bio-plastics, natural dyes, and natural polymers like latex.

  • Introducing the Leafy Seadragon, a unique interspecies creature that seems to be plucked right out of a fantasy realm. With its combination of fish, plant, and human-like characteristics, the Leafy Seadragon moves gracefully and slowly through the water, propelled by an almost invisible fin at the edges of its neck and tail. This mysterious and solitary creature can often be found floating like seaweed in the middle of an urban forest, like the one in the Casa de Campo. Despite its enchanting appearance, the Leafy Seadragon is also deeply concerned about the state of our planet's environment. As a natural caretaker interspecies, it is devoted to protecting the forests, seas, and cities, and providing a safe haven for the eggs of other species.

  • Bioplastics, latex, recycled fibers, recycled wires, and architectural sheets.

  • The Leafy Seadragon is a fascinating creature that inhabits the coastal waters of southern Australia. These unique and delicate animals are part of the Syngnathidae family, which includes seahorses and pipefish. The Leafy Seadragon's body is covered in intricate, leaf-like appendages that provide excellent camouflage, making them almost indistinguishable from their surroundings. Their movements are slow and graceful, as they glide effortlessly through the water, propelled by a small fin on their back.

Despite their stunning appearance, Leafy Seadragons are under threat from habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. As a result, conservation efforts are underway to protect these enchanting creatures and their fragile marine ecosystems. The Leafy Seadragon serves as a reminder of the incredible diversity and beauty of our oceans, and the importance of preserving them for future generations.
